COUNCIL VEETINr
)Utl 1019c5
TO:
Mayor
and City Council
CITY
OF
Ck4NO
FROM:
Mark
Bernhardsnn, City Administrator
DATE: June 6, 1985
SUBJECT: Orono -Medina -Long Lake Sewer/Robb's Motel Development
As you may recall the vacant land in Long Lake next to Robb's
Motel is presently under development proposal. Presently the
development can run their sewer and hookup o the Long Lake
manhole at pipe "C" using "Long Lake Units" under the sewer
agreement and not have to approach Orono on the matter. This
solution however because of the lay of the land results in having
to put a lift station in, in order to connect at this point. The
City of Long Lake has approached the City of Orono regarding
allowing the development to hookup in pipe "B" which is under the
Orono -Medina agreement in order to avoid the expense of the lift
station plus the on going maintenance problems associated
thereto. Given the following facts:
A. That between the requested hookup site on pipe "B"
and the manhole between pipe "B" and pipe "C" there
is no significantly developable property in Orono
which would be adversly affected.
B. That configuration is such so that there would be no
adverse impact in reserve capacity to Orono develop-
ments further "upstream" from the connection point.
(Both "B" •nd "C" are 8")
C. Under the agreement there is no direct allocation of
units in pipe "B" however based on the discharge out
of pipe "B" at present Orono could put in a maximum
of 216, in Medina a maximum of 82 for a total of
298. Based on the fact that there are approximately
358 available units in an 8 inch pipe there appears
to considerable reserve capacity. (Development
estimate is 15 units.)
D. Long Lake in accomplishing this is willing to
- take the allotment out of their units for pipes
"C", "D" and "E".
- put a meter coming out of the ind--strial park into
our pipe
- revise the agreement maintenance formula for pipe
"B" under the agreement
E. That Long Lake has a line running along Willow from
south of Migi.way 12 to this line and may provid.-
available units for selected Orono properties.
