.KjOLHAUG ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES COMPANY <br />Prouiding Sound, Balanc.d, Compreh,nsiu, Natural Rrsourct Solutions <br />COMMON/GLOSSY BUCKTHORN CONTROL PLAN <br />Phase I -Initial Eradication (September and October) <br />1. Identify all buckthorn with trunk diameter greater than 1.5" measured at ground level <br />within the control areas. Chemically treat with glyphosate, Garlon or Rodeo using cut <br />stump method or girdling. Mark cut stumps with colored wire flag. <br />2. Identify buckthorn saplings less than or equal to three (3) feet tall within the control <br />areas. Treat saplings with foliar chemical treatment glyphosate, Garlon or Rodeo. <br />Phase 2 -Extended Maintenance <br />I. Identify all new growth buckthom with trunk diameter greater than I .5" measured at <br />ground level within the control areas. Chemically treat with glyphosate , Garlon or Rodeo <br />using cut stump method or girdling. <br />2. Identify flagged stumps from Phase I and apply glyphosate to stumps that have re- <br />s prouted. Treat stump shoots with glyphosate , Garlon or Rodeo. <br />3. Identify new buckthorn samplings less than or equal to three (3) feet tall within the <br />control area. Treat saplings with glyphosate, Garlon or Rodeo. <br />4. Continue phase 2 methods for the life of the project which ends two years after the <br />completion of construction. <br />COMMON/GLOSSY BUCKTHORN CONTROL METHODS <br />1. The following methods are approved methods of removal and control. Any deviation <br />from these methods needs to be approved by the owner's representative prior to their use. <br />Method 1 -Foliar Chemical Treatment <br />I. Foliar che mical treatment shall be used on buckthorn saplings le ss than or equal to three <br />(3) feet tall. <br />2. Chemical s pray shall be applied between the months of mid-September through October. <br />Chemical s pray shall not be used between March 15 and July I. <br />3. Spray to wet all foliage of saplings. <br />4. Use handheld or backpack sprayers with ultra-low volume nozzles to minimiz e contact <br />with desirable existing plants . <br />5.
