A witness saw a man with a gun in the store, went to a filling station where the attendant gave dispatchers an excellent crime in progress call. Officer Anderson was on Hwy. 12 just two blocks away when he received the call and subsequently, after the attendant gave car description and route of travel, saw the getaway car leave and head south on South Brown Road. Officer Anderson pulled in behind the getaway car while obtaining a description of the driver and his passenger. At Watertown and Brown Roads, Officer Anderson was joined by Officer Bradley Johnson. The two officers followed the getaway car to Cty. Rd. 51 a:,d Brown Road, where the officers attempted to make a stop. However, the getaway car made a turn to go right on Cty. Rd. 51. Officer Johnson pulled upon the getaway car's left side, with Officer Anderson behind in an effort to block the bandit car. The bandit car then turned into Officer Johnson's squad, making contact and becoming locked together by bumpers. Officer Johnson then applied his brakes, stopping both cars on 51 across from Hill School. Driver and passenger exited the getaway car, passenger bumped Anderson's squad car and in the process, dropped a cloth bag. containing drugs and money, and a knife. Officer Johnson chased on foot the driver down Arbor Street to a chain link fence on the northern boundary of the Art Center. Officer Johnson grabbed driver as he was going over fence and cuffed him. Total time after holdup to first capture: 8 minutes. Officer Anderson lost the second suspect behind the Minnetonka Art Center in the tree line. Officer Anderson had seen passenger throwing out items through the window of the suspect car and then went back to locate all parts of a sawed off shotgun.
