COUNCIL MEETING
14AY 131985
To: Mayor Butler,
Orono Council Members MY f1e
am
Mark Bernhardson, City Administrator
From: Michael P. Gaffron, Assistant Zoning Administrator
Date: May 9, 1985
Subject: Marina Committee - 1985 License Review
We have received 1985 license applications from all pre-
viously licensed joint use dock owners except the Vet's Camp, and
have received the renewal applications from ;11 commercial
marinas except Chaska Marine.
It would be appropriate at the May 13th meeting to app nt a
3-member Marina Committee for 1985. Jeanne and I sugges_ you
consider appointing 1 Councilmember and 2 Planning Commissioners
to the committee, which will reduce the time burden on Council -
members.
We are also suggest.', 3 that renewal applications for both
joint use and commercial _inas which exhibit no change in use
from previous license approvals, and for which we have received
no complaints, be sent directly to Council. for approval without
requiring the Marina Committee review.
Suggested Marina Cvmmittee Schedule:
1. Initial Marina Committee reviews (set meeting for last week
of May or 1st half of June).
2. Staff
inspections of each facility
- mainly
checking on
compliance
with conditions of license and
fire code
compliance
(June).
3. Marina
Committee may want to individually or as a
group visit
each marina
during operating hours to get a
feel for
the various
operations.
The main items for Marina Committee
to deal with in 1985
will include:
A. Resolution of the small lot slips on Shadywood near the
Narrows
B. Chaska Marina - continuing plans to expand and dealings
with LMCD.
C. Gayle's Marina - compliance with landscaping and lake
protection requirements.
