The stun gun may be used to subdue animals for the <br />purpose of anim:i control- <br />C. The stun gun Tray. -be employed as a warning device <br />but only in circumstances justifying the authorized <br />use of force. <br />TACTICAL USE <br />A. The stun gun Shall not be used on or about the <br />head area of ;iny person. <br />B. The ideal application point is any area of the <br />torso immediately above the belt, however, appli- <br />cation is effective anywhere on the body, including <br />the arms and legs. <br />C. To immobilize a subject, a full charge of 2-3 <br />seconds should be sufficient to cause disorient- <br />ation, loss of balance and leave him/her weak <br />and dazed for 2-3 minutes. <br />1. A short charge of 1/4 to 1/2 second duration <br />should startle the subject, cause muscle <br />contractions and have a repelling affect. <br />2. A moderate charge of 1-2 seconds can stun a <br />subject, cause muscle spasms, some mental <br />confusion and make him/her unwilling to con- <br />tinue an attack. <br />D. When the stun gun is used at full charge the <br />subject should be supported by the officer and <br />assisted to the ground to prevent injury from <br />falling. <br />E. After utilizing the stun gun, an officer shall <br />immediately restrain the subject while he/she <br />is still.disoriented. <br />POST USE <br />Whenever the stun gun is used upon the person of another without <br />his/her consent, the officer using the device is responsible to <br />submit a written report prior to going off duty. Where an officer <br />is unable due to injury to cor'plete a report prior to going off <br />duty, the report shall be r•ade at the earliest possible time <br />thereLfter, and sut,rritted on an incident report fora. <br />
