2105.2.8. Borrow Material: Borrow material shall consist of all materials <br />excavated from areas designated on the plans as borrow site. All Borrow Exca- <br />vation will he sub -classified as Common Borrow. <br />2105 3. CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS: <br />2105.3.1. General: No excavation or embankment shall be done on any area <br />until all ice and snow and all grass, weeds or other vegetation over 6 inches <br />high have been removed therefrom. If it is necessary in the prosecution of <br />the work to interrupt existing surface drainage, the Contractor shall provide <br />and maintain temporary drainage facilities until permanent facilities are com- <br />pleted. The Contractor shall be responsible for proper drainage of all ex- <br />cavations and embankments. <br />Where large boulders or ledge rock are encountered the Engineer shall imme- <br />diately be notified so that proper measurement or profile can be made for pay <br />quantities. <br />All topsoil shall he removed within the construction limits and shall be stoc- <br />kpiled at a location within the site as directed by the Engineer. This work <br />must be done prior to any excavation or embankment work being done on any par- <br />ticular part of the project. All topsoil mist remain on the site and shall be <br />considered the property of the Owner. <br />2105.3.2. Preparation of Embankment Foundation: Where embankment is to be <br />constructed over swamp, marsh or other locations where the foundation material <br />is unstable, the foundation shall be excavated to remove all or part of the <br />unstable material as indicated in the plans or directed by the Engineer. De - <br />watering required to provide r. stahle foundation for construction of embank- <br />ments will be incidental to the construction. <br />2105.3.3. Excavation Operation: Excavations in all cases shall be made to <br />the alignment, cross section, and grade as shown on the plans and staked by <br />the Engineer. Excavation of unstable materials below grade shall be done un- <br />der the direction of the Engineer as the subsurface conditions are disclosed. <br />At the ends of cuts the back slopes shall be so modified as to blend into the <br />surface of the original ground. <br />2105.3.4. Disposition of Excavated Material: Excavated materials shall be <br />utilized to the fullest extent practicable with granular mate*ials generally <br />being placed in the uppermost position of the embankment. <br />Excavated organic material and other excavated material unsuitable for embank- <br />ment construction shall be temporarily deposited outside of the construction <br />limits or as directed by the Engineer. After drying out sufficiently for <br />rempreading, clay material can be spread as part of the boulevard fills and <br />organic material can be spread not over 1 foot deep on the outer 10 feet of <br />boulevards and on the hack slopes of the fill sections. Excess :material shall <br />he disposed of in the adjacent areas as directed by the Engineer.
