8.4.3 Contractor shall comply with all. applicable laws, ordinances, rules, regulations and orders of any public body having jurisdiction for the safety of persons or property or to protect them from damage, injury or loss. He shall erect and maintain, as rtaquired by the conditions and progress of the Work, all necessary safeguards for its safety and protec- tion. He shall notify owners of adjacent utilities when prosecution of the Work may affect them. All damage, injury or loss to any property referred to in Section 8.4.2(b) and (c) caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, by Contractor, any Subcontractor or any directly or indirectly employed by any of them or anyone for whose acts any of them may be liable, shall be remedied by Contractor. Contractor's duties and responsibilities for the safety and protection of the Work shall continue until such time as all the Work is completed and Engineer has issued a notice to Owner and Contractor that Work is acceptable. 8.4.4 Contractor shall designate a responsible member of his organization at the site whose duty shall he the prevention of accidents. This person shall be Contractor's superintendent unless otherwise designated in writing by Contractor to Owner. 8.4.5 Contractor agrees to indemnify the Owner and Engineer and their agents and employees against all claims, demands, losses, damages and expenses (including attorneys' fees) arising out of or resulting from the contractor's violation of any safety law, regulation or code (including without limitation OSHA) or any other prudent precaution. 8.5 WARNING SIGNS AND BARRICADES The Contractor shall provide adequate signs, barricades, colored lights and/or watchmen and take all necessary precautions for the protection of the Work and the safety of the public. All barricades and obstructions shall be protected at night by colored signal lights which shall be kept in operation from sunset to sunrise. 8.6 PUBLIC CONVENIENCE The Contractor shall at all times so conduct. his work as to insure the least possible obstruction to traffic and inconvenience to the general public and the residents in the vicinity of the Work, and to insure the protection of t-ersons and property. No road or street shall be closed to the public except with the permission of the Owner and proper governmental authority. Fire hydrants on or adjacent to the Work shall bt, kept acc"ssible to fire -fighting equipment at all times. Temporary provisions shall h,. msle by the Contractor to insure the use of ai.dewalks and the proper functioning of all gutters, sewer inlets, drainage d►tches and scion ditches, which shall not be obstructed. 8.7 CROSSING ►1TILITIEB, ETC.
