The document Is a plan for managing the <br />region's solid waste through the year 20D0. It calls for ending <br />the dumping of unprocessed solid waste in landfills after 1990. <br />allowing disposal of only residuals in processed waste after <br />that date. The event, for <br />public officials and interested citizens from throughout the <br />region, will feature a dinner address on the slate of the region <br />by Council Chu, Sandra Gaowlpmg. <br />A "Regional Citizen of the Year" will also be named (see <br />stem belowl. <br />Panel discussions on four major issues will precede the <br />dinner. The panels scheduled are: <br />— Transportation; How Can We Serve the Suburbs? <br />— Legislating Basic Health Benefits Con vs. Consumer <br />Protection. <br />— Marketing Solid Waste Abatement: How Do We Get Two <br />Million People Involved? <br />— Keeping Sewage Out of the Mississippi: It's Everybody's <br />Problem. <br />The penis will be made up of local and national experts in <br />the iseuu. <br />Registration begins at 3:30 p.m., discussions at 4 p.m, and <br />the dinner at 6:30 p.m. The cost of the event, including dinner, <br />4 Sit 3. The <br />winner will be selected by a committer charred! by Council <br />Member Gertrude Ulrich. <br />The nominee must live m the,.verrcil Metropolitan <br />Area and have made a significant contribution to the region <br />a a whole. In addition to new <br />nominations, the selection commit" will reconsider names <br />submitted to last year's competition. <br />VACANCIES OPEN ON PARKS. <br />WASTE CONTPOL COMMISSIONS <br />The Metropolitan Council is accepting applications for <br />membership on Ine Mehopolnan Waste Control and Park, and <br />Open Space Commissions. Appomfees would serve four year <br />terms beginning January 1985 and must live in the districts <br />from which they are appointed. Members receive a $50 "per <br />diem' on meeting days. <br />Applicants for four seats on the waste control commission <br />MWCC) and for four on the parks commission must live in the <br />following commission districts: Dist. E, southern Anoka Coun. <br />ty and northern Anoka County, including the city of Anoka, <br />plus Plymouth, Maple Grove, Champlin, Dayton and Medicine <br />Lake in Hennepin County; Dist. F, St. Louis Park, Golden <br />Valley, Robbinsdale, Edina, Richfield and Bloomington; <br />Dist. 0, western Hennepin County including Lake Minnetonka <br />area, Eden Prairie and Hopkins. and Scott and Carver Counties <br />plus Burnsville and Lakeville in Dakota County; and Dist H, <br />northern Dakota County plus the Highland Park section of <br />St. Paul and southern Dakota and Washington Counties. <br />The appli etum deadline is Dec. 28.
