r" <br />02220. EXCAVATION, BACKFILLING AND GRADING <br />Specific S General Requirements <br />02220. DESCRIPTION OF WORK: It is the intention of these specifications that <br />the General Contractor will do the general site grading. The General <br />Contractor shall be responsible for all footing and foundation excavation, any <br />excavation that is directly connected with the ramp construction, all backfill <br />and fine grading and cleaning, in all directions, as shown on the plan. <br />02220.1. GENERAL: All work shall be carried out in a workmanlike manner <br />using the proper equipment, labor and methods appropriate for the project. <br />The Engineer shall be notified when the excavation is ready for backfill and <br />no backfill shall be placed until the excavation is inspected. <br />The grading shall provide for drainage away from and around the structure as <br />indicated on the plan. <br />It is the intention of this spe:_*fication that all work in this section will <br />be completed as part of the lump sum bid. <br />02220.2. EXCAVATION: All building excavation, including excavation for <br />footings and foundations, shall be large enough to allow construction of <br />footings. Footings shall be placed on solid, undisturbed earth. If <br />excavations are made too deep, the contractor shall start the footings at the <br />extra depth without extra charge. Excess material shall be disposed of on the <br />site. The contractor shall be required to compact the top six inches of soil <br />to 100% standard Proctor density beneath the footings by means of a mechanical <br />tamper prior to pouring any concrete. The Engineer shall be notified of the <br />completion of said tamping to insure inspection prior to pouring concrete <br />footings. <br />02220.3. BACKFILL: Footing excavation shall be backfilled with suitable <br />material from the site. All backfill shall be compacted to 100% Standard <br />Proctor Density. <br />The Contractor shall place a minimum 6" thick layer of clean Class 4, granular <br />material, under the concrete ramp slab and shall compact this material to 100% <br />Standard Proctor Density prior to pouring the concrete slab. <br />` All backfill shall be compacted into place utilizing vibratory compaction <br />equipment of appropriate size and weight. <br />Compaction .ests will be taken by an independent testing laboratory designated <br />by the City. Initial tests will be paid for by tb^ City. Any retesting re- <br />quired because of failure to meet the specified dr•ns,'ty will be paid for by <br />... the Contractor. <br />Density retests will be taken until the compaction meets the specifications. <br />a0-9693b <br />Dil <br />
