GUIDANCE AT A GLANCE <br />DUDLEY RIGGS THEATER PERFORMANCE <br />Upcoming Test Dates <br />SAT - January 28, 1989 <br />December 23. 1988 Registration Deadline <br />ACT - December 10, 1988 <br />November 11, 1988 Registration Deadline <br />Juniors are reminded to obtain a Social Security <br />number as soon as possible if they don't already <br />have one. The number is requested on many college <br />applications, admissions tests, and financial aid <br />forms. <br />Financial Aid: On December 5 there will be a meet- <br />ing for all senior parents to discuss the financial <br />aid form. Because of the necessity of filling out <br />this form for Guaranteed Student Loans, this meet- <br />ing is of general interest. Gary Ness, Financial <br />Aid Officer at Normandale Community College, will <br />present this material. The meeting will be held in <br />the high school choir room at 7:00 p.m. While this <br />meeting is planned essentially for senior parents, <br />any junior parents who want to start planning are <br />welcome to attend. <br />MINNESOTA SCHOOL AND RESOURCE CENTER FOR THE ARTS <br />Applications are available in the high school guid- <br />ance office for the new statewide public high <br />school of the arts located in St. Paul. Any <br />Minnesota loth grader can apply to be considered <br />for next years llth grade class. The class will <br />consist of 135 full time students picked compet- <br />itively. Another 135 students will start as <br />iuniors in September 1990 to make a total enroll- <br />nt of 270 llth and 12th graders. Part time <br />„pportunities will also be available. Call a <br />counselor at the high school for further information. <br />Deadline to submit an application and recommendations <br />is December 15, 1988. <br />WE NEED YOU <br />The Schumann Elementary Library is in need of more <br />volunteer help for this school year. Volunteers <br />assist with shelving, filing and other clerical <br />duties as well as working with students on <br />library projects. <br />If you are able to contribute a morning or an <br />afternoon, please call Maxine Dunlap 476-766: or <br />leave word at the Schumann Elementary School <br />473-7317. Senior Citizens are most welcome. <br />The Dudley Riggs Theater will be preforming in the <br />Wayzata High School auditorium on Saturday evening <br />December 3 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $3.00 each <br />(advance purchases) or $5.00 at the door. Tickets <br />are limited. Tickets may be purchased at the <br />Schumann Elementary office, Wayzata District office <br />or Wayzata Chamber of Commerce office. <br />This is sponsored by the Arts Advisory Commission <br />of Orono, Plymouth and Wayzata and is made <br />possible by funding provided by the Metropolitan <br />Council/Regional Art Council from an approval by <br />Minnesota State Legislature. <br />Marvel Bongart-Arts Advisory Commission <br />ILDREN'S BOOR WEEK <br />Students at Orono Primary and Schumann Elementary <br />Schools will be celebrating an early Children's <br />Book Week soon. Special events are planned for <br />each building. <br />We will hold our third annual Read -In at <br />Schumann Elementary on November 7 at 1:00 p.m. <br />and at Orono Primary on November 8 at 8:00 a.m. <br />for kindergarten and at 1:00 p.m. for all Orono <br />Primary students. About 80 presenters will read <br />or tell their stories for small groups for <br />children. Each child will hear three presentations. <br />Special guests last year included Santa Claus, <br />Darth Vader, Cinderella and her stepsisters and <br />Viola Swamp. <br />Leone Maclean Barb Keen <br />Reading Coordinator Librarian <br />ORONO GRAD ON TOUR <br />The Jeff Dayton Band is on tour with Glen Campbell <br />and has appeared on the Cable TV "Nashville Now" <br />show. Bandleader, songwriter, Jeff is featuring <br />his hit single "Summer When The Sun Goes Dom". <br />Jeff, son of Patty Dayton Strong, of Wayzata, <br />studied music theory at Orono and was a percussion- <br />ist with the Orono Band. <br />a1F �F ?1F i1F CIF alE i1F ilE 91f ;It a1F ilf MARCHING GRADUATES <br />Jodi Buhrer, daughter of Gordon and Terri Huhrer, <br />of Long Lake is playing tuba with the University <br />of Minnesota Marching Band. Playing percussion <br />with the band is Martha Hurr, daughter of Maland <br />and JoEllen Hurr of Long Lake. <br />
