Dangerous Weapons Ordinance Memo Dated 10/13/88 <br />B. Publication Summary <br />ISSUE - <br />1. Determination as to whether the Council wants to adopt the <br />proposed ordinance language and summary which recodifies the old <br />ordinance together with adding permits for B-B gun use for pests, <br />starter guns, and further delinated procedures. <br />2. Inclusion in the ordinance of a prohibition of "Num-Chuks" (a <br />karate weapon) together with listing machettes and butterfly <br />knives on school grounds. <br />INTRODUCTION - At the Council's October 24, 1988 Council they <br />tabled, upon staff recommendation, discussion of this matter <br />until the November 14, 1988 Council meeting. <br />DISCUSSION - To date the staff has heard no further comments or <br />desired changes except for the request the need for a gun safety <br />course prior to issuance of permits, particularily for those <br />under 21 that the Council would make in relationship to this. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />1. <br />Table. <br />2. <br />Adopt. <br />3. <br />Amend and adopt. <br />4. <br />Take no action. <br />RECOMMENDATION - It is recommended that the Council adopt the <br />language as proposed plus the additions for school ground <br />restrictions and requirement for a recognized gun safety course <br />or ability qualified per Police Chief requirement for all <br />permittees using firearms, together with the attached summary. <br />PROPOSED MOTION - Moved by _, seconded by _, that the Council <br />adopt Ordinance Number , Second Series as an amendment to <br />Ordiance Number 9.16 together with adopting Attachment B as a <br />summary of that ordinance for publication.
