NPw `fork Times Article Dated 8'; -id <br />ISSUE - Underage consumption. <br />INTRODUCTION - At the Council's July 11 and 25, 1988 meetings <br />Councl1 held discussions relating to an ordinance amendment to <br />make it a misdemeanor for adults to allow consumption of alcohol <br />by underage individuals on premises they control. i,he Council <br />felt the language 4as overbroad as presented and perhaps too <br />intrusive. The Council tabled the matter for mcre input. <br />D_IS_C_USS_ION - Tn an effort to provide further information on -the <br />matter Chief Ki ] bo will be present that evening to addre:: ; any <br />questions you may have regarding this matter. In additio:, the <br />staff is looking to see if them_ is other language that -nay be <br />more acceptable to the Council in this matter and perhaps the <br />City of Edina's recently enacted ordinance provides a guide in <br />trying to limit the situations in which such an ordinance would <br />be iised. The attached article address-s the problem on a <br />Nat- onwide basis and mentions the DARE program that Orono, Mound <br />and Minnetrista will be commencing thi•5 fall DARE (Drug Abase <br />Resistance Education) is focused on 5th -6th gra,-er:, to build <br />s,lf esteem to resist peer pressure. Additionally relates <br />information would be given to K-4 3s part of the ongoing "Officer <br />Friendly" program. <br />Additionally there is the possibility to get public comment <br />through the use of the Mayor's Article over the next month. <br />A °NATIVES - <br />1.
