June 21, 1988 <br />Page 2 <br />III. REPORTS CONTINUED - ADMINISTRATIVE <br />Hansen informed the Commission of a cable complaint that was printed <br />in the Pioneer Newspaper. Hansen spoke with Triax about this <br />letter. <br />Administrator Hansen would like to attend a management conference given <br />by National Career Workshops, it would be one day on August 2 in <br />Minneapolis. The cost would be $69.00. <br />MOTION 6.21.88.5: Olds moved, seconded by Roehl, to allow Hansen to <br />attend the workshop for $69.00. Motion carried unanimously. <br />NATOA (National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors) <br />Hansen informed the Commission that in NATOA's last newsletter there <br />was an advertisement for a video tape that consists of hearings from <br />U.S. Representative Markey, the tape discusses cable and industry <br />compliance with the cable act. The Commission authorized the purchase <br />of this tape. <br />NATOA is also having Lts annual Government Programming award contest. <br />The deadline for entries is July 1. Hansen would like to enter two <br />categories. One would be a creativity award and the other a Public <br />Service announcement. The total cost for two entries would be $45.00 <br />which would include the return of the tapes. <br />MOTION 6.21.88.6: Roehl moved, seconded by Olds, to submit two tapes <br />for the NATOA award for $45.00. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Hansen also mentioned that the NATOA conference is coming up <br />September 25 - 28. It will be held in Miami, Florida and would be <br />approximately $900.00 per person which would cover airfare, hotel and <br />food. The budget would allow for two people to attend. <br />Administrator Hansen would like to give Bill. Strohm a raise. He will <br />be with LMCCC one year as of July 1. lie now makes $5.50 per hour and <br />works 15 hours a week. Hansen would like to raise him up to $6.50 or <br />$7.00 per hour. <br />MOTION 6.21.88.7: Haggerty moved, seconded by Anderson, to increase <br />Strobes hourly rate to $6.50 per hour at 15 hours per week. Motion <br />carried unanimously. <br />Governor Perpich proclaimed that October is "Community Television <br />Month" Hansen would like this to be promoted in the Communities. <br />Also the Slate awards are coming up in October. They are looking for <br />donations. The Commission decided to decline and not give a donation. <br />Regional Channel 6 is asking for donations from the Metro area cable <br />commissions. When Regional Channel 6 was started by the State <br />Legislature they did not receive any operating funds. Regional Channel <br />6 would like Metro Area Commissions to donate on a per subscriber <br />basis, perhaps $.10 per subscriber. Triax has approximately 4,800 <br />subscribers at this time. Hansen feels that the Commission should <br />support Regional Channel 6. The Commission informed Hansen that <br />this should be a budgeted item for 1989. <br />IV. APPOINTMENT OF ASSISTANT TREASURER <br />Chairman Haggerty re -appointed Jim Olds as Assistant Treasurer. <br />-2- <br />
