� . � <br /> ORDINANCE N0. 237 <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE 223 AND <br /> CHAPTER 19 OF THE ORONO MUNICIPAL CODE <br /> PROVIDING FOR THE E5TABLISHMENT AND <br /> REGULATION OF FIRE LANES <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF ORONO ORDAINS: <br /> SECTION 1. The Municipal. Code of the City or Orono is amended <br /> by adding Sections 19. 210 thru 19.214 to read as follows: <br /> 19.210 Fire Lanes Established. The City Council hereby det- <br /> ermines that the health and safety of persons and property <br /> in the City is unduly jeopardized because motor vehicles and <br /> other objects tend to obstruct emergency access to buildings, <br /> exit doors, and fire hydrants, which obstruction �f_tPn �r.curs <br /> on private property. In accordance with Fire Co.de Article <br /> 13. 209, the City Council nereby provides for "the establishment <br /> of Fire Lanes for purposes of ensuring immediate unobstructed <br /> access for emergency vehicles and equipment. <br /> a) Fire Hydrants. Whether marked or unmarked, Fire <br /> Lanes are hereby established at all public or pri- <br /> vate fire hydrants, which fire lanes shall extend <br /> ten (10) feet on either side of the hydrant and <br /> twenty (20) feet in front of the curb or pavement edge <br /> nearest the front of the hydrant. <br /> b) Building Exits. Whether marked or unmarked, Fire <br /> Lanes are herebv established at all building exits <br /> required by the Fire Code or State Building Code, <br /> which fire lanes �h�11 extend ten (10) feet in a11 <br /> direction from said exits. Where larger fire lanes <br /> are required, they shall be established and marked <br /> pursuant to Section 19.210 (c) or (d) . <br /> c) Existing Properties. The Chief of the Orono Police <br /> Department is hereby empowered to order the esta- <br /> blishment, designation and maintenance of Fire Lanes <br /> on public or private property wherever and to whatever <br /> extent as he may determine is reasonably necessary <br /> to ensure open and unobstructed emergency access. In <br /> this determination, the Police Chief may confer with and <br /> accept the recommendations of the Building Official or <br /> the Fire Chief of the applicable Fire Service District. <br /> Fire Lane Orders shall be in writing and shall be <br /> served in person or by registered letter upon the <br /> property owner of record, or in the case of commer- <br /> cial properties, may be served upon the tennant oc- <br /> cupying the property. <br /> Page 1 of 3 <br />
