ORDINANCE NO. 229 <br /> AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE DATE OF THE REGULAR CITY ELECTION, <br /> EXTENDING THE TERM OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEP4BERS WHERE <br /> NECESSARY AND PROVIDING FOR THE YEAR WHEN THE MAYOR AND <br /> CERTAIN COUNCIL MEMBERS ARE TO BE ELECTED <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF ORONO ORDAINS: <br /> Section 1. <br /> Chapter 11 of the Municipal Code of the City of <br /> Orono is amended to read as follows: <br /> 11.010. Date of Election. The regular City <br /> election shall be held biennially on the first <br /> Tuesday after the first Monday in Noveml�er in <br /> every even numbered year, beginning with the 1982 <br /> election. There shall be no regular City election <br /> in 1981. <br /> 11. 020. Extension of Term of Mayor. The term <br /> of the mayor shall be extended from two years to <br /> four years. There will be a mayoral election in <br /> 1982, therefore, the term of the current mayor shall <br /> be extended to December 31, 1982. That office shall <br /> be filled at the 1982 City election. <br /> 11.030. Extension of Term of Council Members. <br /> The terms of the two council members whose current terms <br /> will expire on December 31, 1981 are extended to <br /> December 31, 1982, with those offices being filled at <br /> the 1982 City election. The term of the council members <br /> whose current terms expire December 3�, 1983 are extended <br /> to December 31, 1984. Those offices shall be filled at <br /> the 1984 City election. <br /> 11.040. The City shall promptly notify, in <br /> writing, the County Auditor and the Secretary of State <br /> of the change in the election date. <br /> 11. 050. After the transition of office as set <br /> forth above, the term of office for the mayor and council <br /> members shall be four years at each election. <br />
