City Of ORON0 1- (ING <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL 2 r <br />J1;''3 <br />NO. <br />PROCLAMATION <br />MINNESOTA CITIES WEEK <br />MAY 1 - 7, 1988 <br />WHEREAS, Cities are a grass roots governmental system <br />which represents a close relationship between elected officials <br />and citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, some 89 percent of the people in Minnesota <br />choose to raise their families and make their homes within our <br />state's cities; and <br />WHEREAS, Cities provide the basic services necessary to <br />insure the health, safety, and well being of the people --services <br />such as water, streets, and police anc fire protection; and <br />WHEREAS, Cities exhibit amazir,.j versatility in funding <br />unique ways to cost effectively provide these services to their <br />residents; and <br />WHEREAS, Cities are essential to the future protection <br />and development of our resources; and <br />WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the work of city <br />officials, city employees, and volunteers in providing for the <br />economic growth and vitality of our communities; <br />WHEREAS, Rudy Perpich, Governor of the State of <br />Minnesotl., has proclaimed the first week in May to be Minnesota <br />Cities Week in Minnesota and has urged citizens to take this <br />opportunity to learn more about city government and how they can <br />become more involved. <br />NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of <br />the City of Orono declare May 1 - 7, 198E "Cities Week" in Orono <br />in recognition of its municipal organization and the people who <br />compose the City of Orono. <br />Adopted by the Orono Council of the City of Orono at a <br />regularly scheduled Council meeting this 25th day of April, 1988. <br />James R.
