MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING HELD MARCH 14, 1988 <br />ZONING ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT: <br />BIG ISLAND STATUS REPORT <br />Alan Wisdorf submitted and reviewed an update of the Big <br />Island Veteran's Camp. He explained that the Board of <br />Governors has revised its philosophy of the camp <br />projectinn it to be a ^amping facility minus the dining <br />facilities. He noted that 32 of the 4" tsilding <br />structures have been demolished. The 11 remaining <br />buildings have been secured to prevent illegal entry. <br />He explained their intent for some of these remaining <br />buildings. He noted that they have removed much of the <br />brush and old furnishings from the island but are not <br />being being held up by the ice thaw. They plan to open the <br />camp to day and overnight tent camping in May. He also <br />noted that the water system has been updated in <br />accordance with the State well code (Minn. Health <br />Dept.). <br />Staff noted that they inspected the camp two weeks ago <br />and were pleased with the work accomplished. <br />Mayor Grabek advised that the Board of Governors submit <br />plans as soon as possible for Council and Planning <br />Commission review so as not to delay their projected May <br />opening. <br />Councilmember Callahan inquired about the Board's intent <br />to sell some of the camp property? <br />Mr. Wisdorf stated that the Board of Governors has <br />notified the Commissioner of Veterans Affairs of a <br />possible intent to sell a portion of the camp (not to <br />exceed 25% of the camp acreage) to a compatible neighbor <br />in order to help finance the renovation of the camp. He <br />noted that the Board has talked with the Hennepin Park <br />District about selling up to 15 acres to them. <br />11242 KATHY i ANDY DUNCANSON <br />690 NORTH BROWN ROAD <br />CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT <br />RE&JLUT I ON # 2 3 7 9 <br />Applicants were not present for this :natter. <br />Acting City Administrator Gerhardson explained the <br />request for a conditional use permit for a non -rental <br />caretaker apartment within the principal residence. <br />Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval as <br />proposed. <br />It was moved by Councilmember Sime, seconded by Mayor <br />Grabek, to adopt Resolution 12379 approving the <br />conditional use permit..
