Suburban Hennepin Regional Park District <br />The task force report recommended that a regional recreation open space agency, <br />most logically SHRPD, prepare a master plan and acquire, develop and operate a. <br />regional park entity on the lake. <br />III. Hennepin County <br />The report recommends that Hennepin County continue its present activities <br />on the lake (e.g., Sheriff's water Patrol and Public Works maintenance). The <br />report recommends growth for both activites, to meet expanding needs. <br />IV. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources <br />The report recommends DNR continue its present activites but with closer <br />coordination with LMCD for certain activities (such as locating access sites). <br />DISCUSSION <br />I. Lake Minnetonka Conservation District <br />From observation and meetings, Council staff can report LMCD activities toward <br />the recommendations as follows: <br />A. 1. LMCO has not convened "a meeting," as recommended, to date. <br />Meetings at both staff and policy level have occurred, for example: <br />- With DNR, to discuss funding for LMCD's planning proposal and <br />some discussion of its legislative initiatives. <br />- With SHRPD, to discuss preliminary aspects of the regional park <br />search which the district has begun and to encourage then to <br />proceed. <br />- With Council staff, to discus% this report and to provide <br />detail on legislative prograi. and planning fund needs. <br />2. LMCD has contracted with a consultant and received a final report from <br />a scoping study for the planning project for which LMCD is now seeking <br />funds. Definition and assignment of responsibilities are included in <br />the product from the planning study. LMCD utilized a lo:al planning <br />assistance loan from the Council, via the City of Shorewood, to carry <br />out the scoping study, at approximately S15,OCO cost. <br />B. 1. LMCD has continued its licensing and regulating responsibilities for <br />marinas and docks without change. <br />r <br />
