This plan, having gone through hearings at the Planning <br />Commission received preliminary approval by the Council <br />during the summer of 1987. It was submitted in the fall <br />to the Metropolitan Council. It is anticipated that the <br />City will receive word back from Metro Council in early <br />'88. The City is currently working to develop draft <br />zoning ordinance changes to implement the amendment. <br />R^-ated to this process were requests by the City of <br />Long Lake to annex certain portions of property in the <br />City of Orono. The City of Orono did not deem these <br />to be in its best interest. <br />3. Zonincq_Applications - Interesting applications among <br />the record 137 taken during 1987 included unauthorized <br />alteration to a lakeshore yard, boat ramps anI large <br />accessory structures on !.arge pieces of property. The <br />City also made significant strides in doing future road <br />planning in the subdivision of parcels to be served by <br />private roads. This road planning will allow a <br />orderly -treet layout and the opportunity for connecting <br />roads 11 the future, should the City deem it <br />appropriate. <br />PUBLIC -WORKS -AND -TRANSPORTATION - <br />Transportation -Generally - In add4 tion to providing <br />access for multiple r-ubd4vision street layouts and <br />future road connections, the City generally discussed <br />the issues related to private roads based on concerns <br />Councilmembers had received during the election process. <br />Whi le the City has had no speci f it-: requests for <br />conversion of current private roads to public streets <br />there have been concerns relaced to public streets that <br />turn into private Streets, areas where there are private <br />easements over public right -of -ways and questions <br />regarding access.
