MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD <br />OF ORONO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 278 <br />HELD ON OCTOBER 9, 1989 <br />The regul,.; meeting of the School Board of Orono Independent School District No. <br />278 :gas held on Monday, October 9, 1989. <br />Present: Dave McKown James Franklin Thomas Mich <br />Don Anderson John Maresh William Fenholt <br />Kitty Crosby Lucie Taylor <br />UPON MOTION by Jim Franklin, seconded by John Maresh, the consent agenda was <br />approved as follows: <br />- approved the minutes of the Sert, -tie; 25, 1a89 regular meeting; <br />- approved the minutes of the Board Workshop, September 25, 1989; <br />- approved the appointment of Lynda Meador as Chemical Health <br />CounseloriCoordinator in accordance with federal grai,t availability; <br />- approved the appointment of the following part-time lunchroom supervisors: <br />Debra Roepke and Dawn Muor,ey; <br />- approved the appointment of Edith Nelson as a part-time cook at Schumann <br />Elementary School; <br />- approved the appointment of Sandra Odenthal as a part-time custodian at <br />Schumann Elementary School; <br />- approved the following variance request: M. Aaron Bean, grade 9, to <br />attend Wayzata Schools for the 1989-90 school year; <br />- approved the bills as covered by vouchers 064528 through Ob4670 and 06J'f55 <br />through 063824. <br />Dr. Mica reported that the following three 8th grade students - Ryan Cl...d, <br />Betsy Lawton and Wonju Kim, have been selected to participate it the Youth <br />Talen-ed Mathematics project at the University of Minnesota and join Amy Hite <br />and Neil Smaby who also participate in this prt.gram; that Kristen Powell, <br />Intermediate School teacher, is a contributing rev;ewer at the Ani:.ul Book Week <br />Program at the University of Minnesota being held Or_tob-­ 16 - 20, 1989; !aat <br />congratulations are in order to Pat Headley, Honor Rrle Teacher of the yaA- nor <br />the State of Minnesota, and that a rE.,ption will be held on Cct_ber I' f*orl <br />2:30 - 4:30 pon. in the high school library. <br />Dr. Mi called on Pat Headley who provided the Board with an overview of !.ire <br />process followed in sPlect'ng the Minnesota Teacher of the Year and shared s(„a: <br />of her experiences from this process. On behalf of herself and the local <br />teacher association, Pat presented a plaque to the school district from the <br />Minnesota Education Association. <br />D► Mich reported that tw had attended a meeting on Friday, October 6, on the <br />equity litigation lawsuit and he provided them with an update on the progress of <br />the lawsu' ; that he wan*ed to present each Board member with an aerial ohoto of <br />the campus; that he wanted to invite Beard members to attend the Metro ECSU <br />orientation meeting on October 25, 1989; that National Education Week is <br />November 12 - 18 and plans are in process for that week; that on October 23 <br />there wi l l be a teacher w,. kshop and Board members are invited to atte.id; that <br />
