Box 55
Crystal Bay, Mn. 55323
TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION:
RE: Application for an After The Fact Variance
PROPERTY: 2240 Devin Lane Long Lake, Mn. 5'356
We are ar for an after the factariance for a garage we had
built
In 1984 we .ttracted with Mr. Bob Ridgway, of Ridgway Cotistruction
to build a deck and i garage at our home on Devin Lane in Long La'-.
V' hired Mr. Ridgway in good faith. and trusted that by hiring a licensed
contractor, that it w:.s the contractor's obligation to obtain t'
necessary permits to complete the job. Apparently Mr. Ridgway d,.0 not
get a permit for the garage n%L •aid he apply for a variance. we learned
about this in August of 1989.
Our hone Devin Lane has been on the market since Feb. 1989. Vte recentl}
had an offer on the house. Our realtor went to Orono City Hall to get
copy of the house plans and it was brought to tier attention that the
garage did not have a variance. consequently, we have a signed purchase
agreement on our house but the prospective buyer has made the offer
s,lbject to --.,ur:,btainilif a variance. This i.s all very upsetting; to us.
We wanJ_- to sell our house. Very honestly we don't know a variance
from an easement. We hired a builder because we are not in the building
bus.ness. Mr. Ridgway is still insisting that he complied with Orono
in 1984. We feel like we are in the middle. Appi-rently he. :_a itut.c!r
what he said he did.
Hopefully this matter can be resolved quickl,'l as we pl.. to close
near the end of the montn.
Thank you,
11 S 12TH S - - • JN POL5 NESOTZ 5"54CJ
.. 16121 3o1•e^id
