AGENDA ITEM <br />Date: July 28, 2025 <br />Title: Appoint Interim Deputy Fire Chief <br />Presenter: Shea Chwialkowski, Interm Fire Chief <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br />Item: 6 <br />Purpose: <br />The purpose of this council action is to approve the appointment of Thomas Flermoen to the <br />position of Interim Deputy Fire Chief for the Orono Fire Department. <br />2. Background: <br />With the May 2025 reorganization of the Orono Fire Department resulted in a vacancy at the <br />Deputy Chief level. Since that time, Fire Captain Thomas Flermoen has effectively assumed many <br />of the responsibilities associated with the role. Thomas brings over 18 years of fire service <br />experience and possesses the education and certifications necessary to serve as Interim Deputy <br />Fire Chief with competence and professionalism. <br />3. Staff Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve the appointment of Thomas Flermoen as Interim <br />Deputy Fire Chief of the Orono Fire Department. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to approve the appointment of Thomas Flermoen to the position of Interim Deputy Fire Chief <br />for the Orono Fire Department, effective July 29, 2025, at an hourly rate of $25.00. <br />31 <br />
