Dear Mr. Tunheim, Ms. Benson, Ms. Ricks, Mr. Persian and Mr. Schwingler;
I am writing to you in opposition to the Stubbs Bay LID. My name is Barbara Schmidt and I live
at 50 Landmark Drive in the Stubbs Bay wetlands with a view of Stubbs Bay.
For the last two days I have canvased Stubbs Bay Lakeshore and deeded access homeowners
to see what they think. I spoke to dozens of people and not a single person understood they
were becoming legally liable for a public body of water for weed treatments. Not a single person
understood that they were locking their neighbors into that same legal liability with a mandated
tax whether they wanted the weed treatments or not.
Residents simply want another option without the tax and liability components. Most neighbors
were willing to help pay for an ecologically sound option that is not forcing other neighbors into
treatments they don't believe in. Some asked why there aren't options on various treatments?
Where is the long term plan? Is there a Lake wide plan?
Please understand that Citizens voted for something that was not fully explained. Please take
the time to learn what they want and present an alternative solution. Let's find a different vehicle
and process to take care of our Lake that has ecological and civil oversight that is open to all
those who wish to learn and participate.
Thank you - Barbara Schmidt 612-270-3924
295
