Date: May 12, 2025 Item: 7 <br />Presenter: James Van Eyll, Fire Chief <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Title: Hire Part-Time Firefighters <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />This action item aims to gain approval to hire part-time firefighters. <br />2.Background: <br />The Orono Fire Department is currently seeking part-time firefighters. <br />3.Recruitment: <br />The selection process for the position involved application screening and an interview. The Fire <br />Chief and firefighters conducted the interviews. The candidates have completed the background <br />check and psychological and physical (pre-employment medical) exams. They will need to <br />complete a probationary period. <br />4.Recommended Candidate: <br />Aidan Liebl has 2 years of experience as a firefighter. He has passed Firefighter 1 & 2 and EMR. <br />Cameron Aslakson has 2 years of experience as a firefighter. He has passed Firefighter 1 & 2 and <br />EMR. <br />Chris Adams has 17 years of experience as a firefighter. He has passed Firefighter 1 & 2 and <br />EMT. <br />5.Recommended Compensation: <br />Staff recommend hiring Aidan Liebl and Cam Aslakson as a part-time firefighters starting May <br />13, 2025. <br />Pay. Starting rate of $20.00/hour. <br />Benefits. Per the City Personal Policy, including enrollment in Police and Fire PERA. <br /> <br />Staff recommend hiring Chris Adams as a part-time Captain starting May 13, 2025. <br />Pay.
