Eighty-three percent, a comparatively high level, understand "sustainability" at least "somewhat <br />well;" forty-three percent understand the concept "very well." A majority of at least 58% report <br />seven sustainability issues are "very important' to them — promote energy efficiency, use <br />environmentally preferable products and services, reduce greenhouse emissions, expand mass <br />transit options, increase participation in recycling, maintain healthy forests, and protect and <br />improve surface and ground water in the city. In general, 75% think the City of Orono does <br />about the right amount in protecting forested areas. And, specifically, 87% see buckthorn and/or <br />invasive exotic plant species as at least a "somewhat serious" problem in Orono; forty-two <br />percent actually rate the problem as "very serious." <br />66 <br />
