Box 63
Crystal Bay, Minnesota 5S323
DaarMr.Qaffron:
Please consider this letter the rssubmlsslon of application for Item #1364 Edwin
Qage walkway project for the March 13th Council Meeting. At the behest of the
Council, we haw explored some altemattws and haw additlonai information to
submit
We haw consulted with the oonstnjction company which we would hire to install
the posts for the dock, and they haw Slated that it is virtually Impossible, with the
equipment available, to Install the posts at an angle to increase the stability. Also,
the company reiterated Its concern for the long-term stability of the dock with the
posts only 4 feet apart; It feels that the bay in question Is probabV very mucky and
will not haw vary good stability.
We haw reviewsd the Items which will be transported to and Itam the boats and
haw reaffirmed that although it Is, in fact possible to get the required items to the
shore owr a 44toot dock, the ISOfoot leiigth does impose congestion vrhich leads
the owner to ask what other alternatives might be po^ble.
The DNR has been contacted to determine If a dredging permit might be possible.
The consensus is that there is precedent to support the application and that pro
jects of this nature haw been approwd In the recent past Although this may be a
viable possibility, Mr. Qage feels that It would haw a r‘*>trl menta l environmental
effect on the bay arxi he would prefer to lirrd some oth.. solutloa
We haw reviewed other options tor allowing lake access along the propertly line
arxi haw concluded that because of the way the bay cuts across the Qage and
Nelson property, Itwouldbeimposalbletograntaneasementwlthoutanexoes-
siwly detrimental effect on the lake shore area of the Nelson property. Both
owners feel that the best long-range solution is for them to haw s epei'a te access
to the lake.
1845 Wisconsin Ave. No. Golden Valley. MN 55427 tel (612) 544-4215
