RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO COUNTY ROAD 116 <br />BEING EXTENDED FROM HIGHWAY 55 TO COUNTY ROAD SIX <br />WHEREAS, the City of Medina has contemplated <br />construction of a north/south route from Highway 55 to its <br />southern border in the approximate center of the community, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Medina under 5,000 population does <br />not qualify for Minnesota State Aid Roads, and <br />WHEREAS, the County has agreed to fund construction of <br />this road through its bonding funds for an estimated total of <br />$2.9 million, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Orono having a population over <br />5,000 receives its own Municipal State Aid monies, and <br />WHEREAS, although the County's standards for <br />construction of 116 would be similar to a revision of Willow done <br />by the City, the City is concerned about the negative impact of <br />increased traffic by construction of this route in Medina, and <br />WHEREAS, substantial opposition to this road in Medina <br />was made evident at the Orono Council's consideration of this <br />matter, and <br />WHEREAS, substantial opposition in Orono was generated <br />to this proposal, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Orono realizes that the County has <br />the legal right to designate and/or construct any or all portions <br />of the road it chooses to in the City of Orono. <br />HOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of <br />the City of Orono goes on record indicating to the County Board <br />and the City of Medina its opposition to construction of County <br />116 from Highway 55 to County Road Six. <br />Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono, <br />Minnesota at a regular meeting held February 13, 1989. <br />James R.
