We are frustrated that this process continues despite concerns raised by the community and the
City Planning Committee. Some exceptions are being granted, while others are not being
considered. During the February 18 Planning Committee meeting, certain members expressed
that discomfort with the density of the development was irrelevant as long as the code was met,
while simultaneously endorsing flexibility in exceeding the city standard for dead-end road
length by approximately 50 percent.
In closing, the developer and property owners of 215 North Arm Lane will not experience the
lasting and profound effects on their homes and lives that this development will impose on the
surrounding community. As residents of Orono, we urge our elected officials to consider the
needs of their constituents and the protection of Lake Minnetonka, one of the community's most
valuable assets, before advancing this development further.
We respectfully request that the density of the development be limited. It is still possible to build
multiple lots on this property without compromising the surrounding neighborhood or
environment. We encourage the developer to submit alternative plans that better preserve the
character of the area before any final decisions are made.
275
