ORONO COUNCIL MEETING HELD OCTOBER 22, 1990 <br />ZONING FILE #L592-SMITH BAY MARINA CONTINUED <br />Mabusth replied, "Tha City ordinances do not set any <br />limitations ■:or renewals. She asked Mr. Larson if he could <br />estimate when a building permit: may be issued for this proposal. <br />Mr. Larson stated that he d:.d not knov/ when a building <br />permit applic.ition would be submitted. <br />Callahan stated that it was his understanding that the <br />property v;as in the process of being sold. He questioned whether <br />it was appropria^£ to proceed with this application at this time. <br />Mabusth replied, "The property was in the process of being <br />sold to this same party when Council reviewed this application <br />last year." <br />Callahan said, "On the other hand, if the property is not <br />sold, should we consider this application when it is possible <br />that these improvements will never take place?" <br />Mr. Larson stated that the reason the improvements had not <br />been done prior to this was because of the economic hardship <br />caused by the low lake levels. He said, "We completed the <br />dredging, the replacement of the old docks and the construction <br />of the seawall. Then the lake level decreased and it was not <br />economically feasible to proceed with the other improvements." <br />Callahan said, ''I can understand why you chose not to go <br />ahead. I am questioning whether it makes sense to grant <br />Variances relating to a building in a commercial site plan, when <br />we have no idea when the building may be constructed." <br />Goetten asked whether Council could request that a specific <br />time period be provided indicating when construction would begin. <br />Mr. Larson stated that he was not prepared to provide such <br />information. He added, "If that information is normally required <br />as part of the renewal Variance process, we could probably <br />provide an estimate." <br />Goetten asked, "Can you give the City a <br />expectation that the building will be constructt?d?" <br />reasonable <br />Mr. Larson replied, "Probably just as reasonable as any of <br />the other times we have been before the Council." <br />Mr. Art Torangeau asked if the building will have indoor <br />plumbing facilities. <br />Mr. Larson replied.
