ALTERNATIVES - <br />1. Initiate. <br />2. Table at this time for future consideration. (Tabling at this <br />time would require the City to forgo the tcaning opportunity in <br />March and look at initiating the program sometime this fall.) <br />3. Choose not to undertake the program. <br />RECOMMENDATION - It is recommended that the Council initiate this <br />program as outlined in Attachment A. <br />The introduction of a dog does provide a new element and a new <br />area for the department and the ability to share with other <br />deoartments where we currently are not able to share on a quid <br />pro quo basis. Efforts will be undertaken to coordinate <br />schedules of the Wayzata, Orono and Mound officers utilizing dogs <br />so that all three communities are in a better position to <br />maximize availability of a canine unit. <br />__ that the Council <br />authorize ^the'implementatioiTlD a canine program.
