directed administration to certify to the State Demographer the following <br />population estimates for Orono Independent School District No. 278 which <br />will serve as the basis for the Community Education levy for the Early <br />Childhood program: <br />Total: 127 <br />'• 140 <br />•' 140 <br />" 145 <br />•' 180 <br />Total 732 <br />- approved the bills as covered by vouchers 066399 through 066705. <br />Dr. Mich reported that a successful three week suinner school program was just <br />completed with approximately 420 students in attendance and that he wanted to <br />thank Ron Gilbert who was the director this year and Connie Fladeland who served <br />as the on-site principal; that work on the construction remains about three <br />weeks behind but every effort is being made to improve the situation; that he <br />has been appointed to serve on the ECSU Executive Board and was also elected to <br />serve on the TIES Executive Board for the next three years; that as work <br />progresses on the budget, it might be necessary for the Board to have a workshop <br />session to study/review this area and that Bill Fenholt had prepared for the <br />Board a levy calendar for 1990; that he and Bill Fenholt have spent considerable <br />time with an attorney from the Attorney General's office regarding the equity <br />law suit; that he wanted to inform the Board of three district level goals that <br />he secs for the coming year, those being: 1) successful completion of the <br />construction, 2) implementation of the middle school study/recommendations, and <br />3) public relations for the district; that there will be approximately 20 new <br />teachers this year and an orientation workshop will be held on August 24; that <br />he wanted to express special thanks to Lunds for their program of free computers <br />and also to the community for their efforts in helping the district to obtain 7 <br />Apple IIGS computers at a value of about $1,500 each; that he would like the <br />Board, after the meeting, to peruse the samples of interior colors for the new <br />building. <br />Peg Swanson stated that she would be attending an all day workshop for new Board <br />members sponsored by MSBA and that she had attended another evening workshop <br />which had been most helpful. She expressed appreciation to all those who have <br />helped her in acclimating to her new position. <br />UPON MOTION BY Lucie Taylor, seconded by Don Anderson, the Board of Education <br />approved the Mission Statement/Instructional Goals revision as follows:
