LMCD Board of Directors June 27, 1990 <br />5. C. 4) ENVIRONMENT. Chair Reese <br />a) Reese reported milfoil is spreading throughout <br />the area lakes. It appears there will not be any funding for <br />1990 from the Corps of Engineers. Their participation is still <br />unconfirmed. <br />Rascop moved, Bjorlin seconded, that letters be directed to <br />representatives in Congress detailing LMCD efforts and needs for <br />financial assistance- Motion carried unanimously. <br />b. Reese reported $39,000 has been received in <br />the private fund drive with $16,000 need to meet the goal. There <br />has been cooperation from the DNR and Corps of Engineers with <br />computerized mapping. <br />c. A research project with slow release aquatic <br />plant herbicide technology, approved for funding with over <br />$60,000 by the Greater Minnesota Corporation is now being <br />finalized. Lake Minnetonka is anticipated to be part of this <br />study. Lake Independence has had success with treating 18 acres <br />with 2-4D to eradicate an isolated Eurasian Water Milfoil <br />infestation. That method is limited to 5% of the total lake. <br />Babcock reported Sonar was tested on Grays Bay. The Executive Director reported insurance <br />premiums for 1990-1991 will be $15,662 covering Worker <br />Compensation, equipment liability and the general liability <br />insurance for equipment operation. This coi t was not fully <br />anticipated or known in budgeting for 199J. Approximately <br />$13,000 will be charged to the $25,000 contingency allowance. <br />5.A.2) Public Officials Lake Inspection Tour <br />Cochran reported the Public Officials Lake Inspection Tour <br />is scheduled for 10 a.m. to ] p.m., Saturday, August 4, from the <br />Lafayette Club docks. The guest list is the same as last year <br />and it is planned to use two boats from A1 & Alma’s. <br />Hurr moved, Cochran seconded, to limit the guests to public <br />officials and not include spouses or guests, thereby using only <br />one boat. <br />Martinson suggested using one boat but having two tours, one <br />in the morning and one in the afternoon, encouraging Board <br />members to be on both tours. <br />Upon taking a voice vote, the Chair declared the motion <br />failed.
