Date: November 18, 2024 Item: 5.6 <br />Presenter: Laura Oakden, Community Development Director <br />Section: Public Hearings <br /> <br />Title: LA24-000062, Text Amendment: Sections 78-1 and 78-823 Industrial Uses <br />(Laura Oakden) <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The City of Orono is proposing an ordinance to amend the Zoning Code to allow “garage condos” <br />by conditional use permit within the Industrial District. <br />2.Background: <br />At the October 2024 Planning Commission meeting, the Commission reviewed an application for a <br />garage condo business in the Industrial District (I District). Garage condos are not listed as a <br />permitted, accessory, or conditional use in the existing code language. As a result and following <br />Staff’s guidance, the Planning Commission gave direction for staff to pursue a text amendment to <br />consider garage condos as a conditional use within the Industrial district. <br />3.Public Comment: <br />One public comment email has been submitted and is included as an Exhibit for your <br />consideration. <br />4.Staff Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends approval. <br />5.Planning Commission Action Requested: <br />Commissioners should open a public hearing and review the proposed ordinance.
