The City of Orono is an Equal Opportunity Employer <br />Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles <br />involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership <br />technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. <br />English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language <br />including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. <br />Personnel and Human Resources — Knowledge of principles and procedures for <br />personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and <br />negotiation, and personnel information systems. <br />Skills: <br />Active Listening — Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to <br />understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at <br />inappropriate times. <br />Monitoring — Monitor/Assess performance of yourself, other individuals, or <br />organizations to make improvements or take corrective action. <br />Speaking — Talk to others to convey information effectively. <br />Coordination — Adjust actions in relation to others' actions. <br />Management of Personnel Resources — Motivate, develop, and direct people as they <br />work, identifying the best people for the job. <br />Time Management — Manage one's own time and the time of others. <br />Critical Thinking — Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of <br />alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. <br />Abilities: <br />Oral Comprehension — Able to listen to and understand information and ideas presented <br />through spoken words and sentences. <br />Oral Expression — Able to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others <br />will understand. <br />Problem Sensitivity — Able to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It <br />does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. <br />Written Comprehension — Able to read and understand information and ideas presented <br />in writing. <br />Deductive Reasoning — Able to apply general rules to specific problems to produce <br />answers that make sense. <br />Inductive Reasoning — Able to combine pieces of information to form general rules or <br />conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events). <br />Minimum Requirements <br />Class “S-D” or higher wastewater collection system license. <br />Class “D” or higher water treatment and collection system license. <br />Five(5) years of public utilities experience with progressively increasing levels of <br />responsibility. <br />Two (2) years of experience as supervisor or leader. <br />Valid MN Class B Driver’s with air brakes and Tanker endorsements. License or ability <br />to obtain within one-year of employment. <br />Must live within a 30-minute travel time of the Orono Public Works facility within one <br />(1) year of employment. <br />79
