April 7, 1990 <br />LMCt) Office, Wayzata <br />Members Present: James Grathwol, Chair, Excelsior: Douglas <br />Babcock, Spring Park; Jan Boswinkel, Minnetonka Beach: John <br />Lewman. Minnetrista: TVionias Reese. Mound; Robert Pillsbury, <br />Minnetonka; Thomas Martinson, Wayzata: Robert Slocum, Woodland. <br />Also present: Eugene Ctrommen, Executive Director. <br />ENVIRONMENT <br />1. Progress on Equipment Purchase Explorations/Preparations for <br />Bids and/or Quotations. <br />Reese reported purchase of a four wheel drive 3/4 or 1 ton <br />enclosed pick-up truck or panel truck. suitable for carrying <br />tools and supplies, is being investigated. Hennepin County will <br />provide equipment to move the harvesters in and out of the water. <br />The pro.ieot manager is checking on the purchase of a pontocn boat <br />and/or a .ion boat. Advertisements for trucking bids to haul <br />weeds and for weed harvester personnel arc now being placed. <br />2. Personnel Preparations for Staffing the Weed Harvesting <br />Supervisory and Operations ieams. <br />The project manager is working on an agreement to engage the <br />individual who liandled maintenance last year to conduct major <br />repairs on an as-needed basis at an hourly rate. Reese indicated <br />contract maintenance is also being investigated. The Executive <br />Director reported daily maintenance will be done by each shore <br />conveyer operator at a higher hourly rate. Rob Morila has been <br />offered the project supervisory position. Merila’s experience <br />with the 1909 program is an advantage. The project manager will <br />provide Merila addition ' .upervisci'y training. An employment <br />agreement will be submi'f. to the Board. <br />3. Fund Progress, Private telicitation. . .u i « <br />Reese reported $16,000. has been received toward the goal of <br />$55,000. The Executive Director is sending personalized letters <br />to the larger contributors to complete the 1,000<- mailing. <br />The Executive Director reported W.ater Specialists. <br />Minnetrista. a water softener equipment company, has offered a <br />10% of sales contribution to LMCD when customers <br />identify Eurasian Water Milfoil as a recipient. Lewman explained <br />that the company offers this fund raising method to many <br />community fund raising programs. <br />Reese moved, Lewman seconded, to authorize the Executive <br />Director to further investigate the offer of Water Specialists, <br />Inc. and to make his recommendation to the Board, assuring <br />is no implied endorsement of the firm. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />1
