The garage floor
consists of a 611 to 811 thick reinforced concrete slab
supported on the end walls of the garage and three (3)
intermediate concrete beams poured integrally with the
floor slab. The concrete beams are supported on 1611
square block pilasters reinforced with four (4) #6
vertical bars and filled with concrete. Two (2)
vertical bars at each pilaster bend into the concrete
beam, tying the beam and pilaster together.
To correct the rear wall displacement, the interior
fill along the wall was removed to a depth of about
6'-011. An attempt to push the wall back into place was
made. During this straightening procedure, the upper
four (4) courses of block separated from the lower
wall. The lower twelve (12) courses of block were
about 211 out of plumb. The top of the ?1y ster is at
the same elevation as the 211 displacement.
The purpose of the corrective measures outlined in my
letter of June 18, 1.990, was to tie the upper four (4)
courses of block into the lower portion of the wall.
The bars also tie the block wall into the structural
slab.
Denver, CO
Duluth.
