There may be <br />other firms in the Metropolitan area." <br />Jabbour said, "I feel there are certain issues within the <br />Police Department that need to be addressed. Are we going to <br />address those issues in conjunction with the search for a new <br />Police Chief?" <br />Councilmember Callahan said, "I would suggest thot we <br />establish what we would like the new Police Chief to do befo'e we <br />do any hiring." <br />Councilmember Goetten asked whether the contracting cities <br />would play any part in hiring a Chief of Police. <br />Bernhardson stated that it is up to Council to determine the <br />degree of involvement the contract cities would have in the <br />selection process. <br />Councilmember Jabbour asked Bernhardson if there is a <br />3pecific time period which must be considered for hiring a new <br />Chief. <br />Bernhardson replied, "The Police Depart.ment could exist for <br />a period of time with an acting Chief. However, it may be more <br />appropriate to have the process completed and a new Chief hired <br />as quickly as possible. I suggest that mainly because the budget <br />process will begin in June and July. It would be helpful to have <br />the new person on-board to assist with the budget process." <br />Council accepted the information presented by the City <br />Administrator and took no formal action. <br />SEPTIC INSPECTOR POSITION - EMPLOYMENT* <br />It was movad by Callahan, seconded by Goetten, to hire <br />Steven J. Weckman as the regular full-time manager of the Sewage <br />Treatment Program to commence on Tuesday, January 15, 1991. <br />starting position is classified as a Level 6, Step 1, ai <br />hourly rate of $11,814. All benefits shall accrue as of <br />starting date, January 15, 1991. This position will be subj« <br />to a one year probation period, through to January 15, 1992, with <br />a salary review in that position scheduled for August 5, 1991. <br />Motion, Ayes-4, Nays-0.
