MN 5.-092 0« (612)471-0491
The Navarre Business and Professional Council estabilished a three person
committee in spring of 1991 in an effort to beautify our community. Our
ooal was to gather information on Holiday decorations available for all
the light poles in the Navarre business district (Cty rd 15 & 19), contact
City of Orono for help and input, create a fund involving community
donations to pay for the decorations, and finally to choose and order for
Holiday 1991 delivery. To complete these goals, the following was done:
JUNE: A committee member met with Mark Bernhardson and John Gerhardson
to discuss the feasibility of this plan. Both agreed with the general
ideas and followed up with Mark sending information he had gotten from
Spring Park and Mound regarding their purchase of decorations. John
delivered a map of the street plans with light pole locations and numbers
of poles for our use. .
The committee received information from Vaughn Signs of Bloomington on
banners and decorations available.
JULY: The Navarre Business and Professional Council met with Mark, John,
and Jean Haybush to discuss both signing concerns in Navarre and the
proposed holiday decorations. The need for the City to handle the annual
installation and removal of the decoration, along with annual storage
was discussed. Both Mark and John felt this could be worked out with
the City once the actual funds were established for the purchase.
At this time Vaughn Signs contacted us and offered a <>0% discount
on the decorations if the order was placed by 7/31/91. With this
tremendous savings in mind, the committee made the decision to order
on 7/31/91.
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER; An open letter to the community was sent to over 1500
area residents and businesses requesting donations. This was also
printed in the Laker newspaper for total Westonka community involvement.
The decorations were delivered to Janet Symons State Farm office, and are
currently being stored there.
Rick Bloomquist contacted John Gerhardson for the approval of the
John visited the office to check out the storage space needed and said he
would contact the Orono City Council to set up a time slot at the next
meeting.
OCTOBER: Hick Bloomquist received a call from the new City
regarding this project, giving us the approval to request time at the 10/28
Council mooting to present our project needs.
