Boa; 'dmi' -strative respon <br />sibilities, curriculum review cycle committees and the N - review cycle. <br />Dave McKowr- informed the Board that Neal Lawson is partir ipt'ting in the Bush <br />Program and stated that it is an honor for Orono to have mother adm’nist'-ator <br />involved in this program. <br />Dr. Mich provided the Board with an update on the pi .'gress the 1991-92 <br />Imprrvement Goal’’ h h were approved by the Board of Eoucai ^. >t 12, <br />1991. '*'icn answered <br />questions from the Board for clarification purposes. <br />Or. Mich addressed the District leve’ goal for the 1991-92 school year regarding <br />long-range planning and the process by which sucr planning should be developed. <br />Discussion ensued and Board members provided Dr. Mich with suggestions for <br />target areas/areas of concentration. Accordingly, Dr. Mich will develop a list <br />from which Board members will develop a workable number of long-'^ange planning <br />committees. <br />Dr. Mich provided the Board with a brief model of how the District co.'tinually <br />moves toward improvement in both cur<^iculum and instructi-’n. He stated that ’n <br />order for a school district to be truly effective in providing for student <br />learning, attention must be given not only to the curriculum (tne content) but <br />also to the nstruction (the actual teaching) and ihat work must b-? continually <br />done in order lo strike the right balance between !■ ; two. <br />The Boa. u neard a report from Martha Klem anc Cindy Conger, teachers at <br />Schumann Elementary, regarding their scr->ol's theme this year - "The Clympics”. <br />Ms. KIt’n stated that this theme was chosen mainly because the philosophy behind <br />the Olympics focuses on many of the areas tnat teachers work to develop and <br />enrich in their students every day such as; cooperation, participation, <br />sportsmanship, the development of the whole child do;h ohysically and mentally, <br />promoting resf*.‘Cf for others as well as individually, and working to be the best <br />person the student can be. In addition, each classroom will study a specific <br />cou.Iry during ‘he year. Ms. Conger provided th« ^'ard with a synopsis of the <br />all school activities that have been planned fr ine year and e/tended an invi- <br />t? on to the Board fc 'sit the school dur* t^e year and attend any >< *he <br />planned a:* • ,ities. <br />Connie Fladeland, 'Principal of C’ ono Primary School, reported to the Board on <br />the opening of th^ school year at ^he primary school covering such areas as <br />enrollment, staffing, and the theme for this yea*' v ’'h is "Ororio Primary Flight <br />1991-92*. Ms. Fladeland stated that the areas of roc-s of t»e theme are <br />"Friendship", "The World", and "Our Heritage" ard that using a theme provides an <br />opportunity to ''tegrate 1. e cur'-lc.'lum and help students see the connections <br />h
