This is a large group of people interested
in preserving artifacts invol\,-ed in transporting people in the
Twin Cities area. This is an all volunteer group.
We have already restored a stear. loconotive (now operating in Stillwater).
We have three trolley cars ru.nning at tne Laxe Harriet, Lake Calnoun area.
How, just last year we have started restoration on a streetcar boat,
This boat in the early 190u's took people from tne doors in Lxcelsior
to an amusement park on Big Islaal.
We have a large building in Excelsior in wnicn tnis is oeing ttone.
Many indi-viiuals have contributed in time and money to tnis project.
Even tne Minnesota r.istorical Society has givt'n us a largs grant.
The plan is to operate tne ooat regulai^ on Laxe Minnetonka, charging
people to ride in order to defray expenses of running it.
Low we have located a "Twin Cities" streetcar body presently owned by
a private party. This person would like to donate tnis to the Museum.
We would like to incorporate tne operation of tnis car in conjunction
with tne streetcar boat project. The streetcar will take quite a
bit of restoration and we must have a place to do this. Tne boat will
not oe completed for several years, and until trds is done we cannot
move tne steetcar into our building to worx on it.
Would it be possible to stcre ,ne streetcar cody on my farm until we can
^ve it into tne shop? I have 55 acres across the highway from tne
Orono Senool 3^3t6m» There are several spets on ny farn wnere tnis
will not offend the Public's view. The streetcar at tne present time
has an exterior protecting it from tne weatner. It Iooks like a small
building.
Robert Dumas
U7>9538
^ ,-c ^
[J
