Date: July 8, 2024 Item: 4 <br />Presenter: Correy Farniok, Police Chief <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Title: Body Armor Purchase <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose is to gain approval to purchase rifle rated ballistic plates. <br />2.Background: <br />The police department is seeking authorization to purchase rifle rated ballistic plates to be worn <br />with our current soft body armor. Our current body armor offers limited protection from rounds <br />fired from a rifle. These rifle plates would give the officers the added protection from rifle <br />rounds. Several companies were contacted for information and two companies have been <br />contacted and submitted quotes for the rifle rated ballistic plates. Both are very similar in pricing <br />for the plates. We are continuing to evaluate each on weight and thickness of the panels but seek <br />authorization to approve purchase to assist with expediting the sizing, ordering and delivery of the <br />rifle plates. <br />3.Cost: <br />The cost of the rifle rated ballistic plates will be approximately $1000.00 per officer. The price <br />will vary slightly depending on the size of the plate the officer needs to accommodate them. <br />4.Funding: <br />Funding for these rifle rated ballistic plates will be through the Police Capital Fund. <br />5.Staff Recommendation: <br />Recommend approval to purchase rifle rated ballistic plates for police officers from either Alpha <br />Training and Tactics LLC or Angel Armor for the estimated cost of $30,000 plus shipping and <br />handling. <br />AGENDA ITEM <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to approve the purchase of rifle rated plates from Angel Armor or Alpha Training and Tactics <br />for added ballistic protection for police officers. <br />25
