As you know, the Power Squadron operates a
motor boat facility across the channel from the
proposed Big Island, Inc. facility. The Power Squadron
use, when combined with the potential significant boat
use proposed by Big Island, Inc., may well be beyond
the capacity of the Big Island area. Such an
overcrowding creates a greater safety risk around the
island. Due to the safety risks caused by the very
close proximity to the Minnetonka Power Squadron
property, the Ericksons object to the granting of a
conditional use permit to Big Island, Inc.
5.Open Fires. If the City considers granting the
Conditional Use Permit, my clients specifically request
that open fires be prohibited from the area.
Specifically, the Ericksons are concerned about a large
number of individuals using the property without a
direct property ownership interest. The significant
risk of many unsupervised individuals creates a most-
significant fire hazard to the island.
On the basis cf the above specific objections, the Ericksons
request that City of Orono deny the Conditional Use Permit
request for Big Island, Inc. If I can provide you with further
information, pleat ^./e me a call.
Very truly yours,
DKP:ch
^ V.-.
