The existing lighting is adequate only for the sidewalk and entrance areas. The lack
of lighting in the parking lot areas causes a number of safety problems. Those leaving work after
dark must walk to their cars in a dark parking lot. There have been instances of vandalism to cars
in the Police parking lot.
To address these problems, the 1998 budget includes funding for the installation of parking lot
lighting. The lighting plan is to install three 20' light poles, each with two light fixtures. The
attached materials show the location of the poles and the design of the poles.
Staff has worked with several contractors to develop a lighting plan that provides sufficient light to
all parking areas, and to obtain price quotes for the purchase and installation of the lighting.
Electricity is to be provided to the lights through three underground conduits that run to the three
light pole locations.
The low bid for the purchase and installation of the light poles and fixtures is from Frontier Electric
at a price of $5,995.00. Staff recommends accepting the lowest cost proposal by Frontier Electric
to enable installation of the lights this fall.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
