I
1
i '
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
council..
OCT 12 iyy8
CfTY C ' . P/.' NO
DATE: October 12. 1998
ITEM NO •= H
Department Approval:
Name Gregory A. Gappa
Title Director of Public Services
Administrator Reviev/ed:
Item Description: Golf Course Painting
Agenda Section:
Engineer's Report
Attached you will find a memo from Ron Steffenhagen, Golf Course Manager regarding an
artist's painting of one of the golf course holes. Next year is the 75th anniversary of the opening
of the Orono Golf Course. This could be a good way to recognize this event. Approximately
25,000 rounds of golf ar^ played at the course each season, with only about fifty senior citizen
season passes sold each year. This means that are a substantial number of people, that play golf
at the course each year, that would be potential customers for the purchase of a painting.
The cost is $5,000 for 480 prints. At $25 per print, sale of the first 200 prints would recover the
costs. Two hundred of the prints would have a 75th anniversary logo on them. Purchase of these
paintings would be funded from the Golf course fund. The fund balance is about $200,000. I will
have a sample painting at the Council meeting for your review.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Discuss/Approve purchase of 480 prints of a golf course hole painting for $5,000 for resale at the
golf course. Funding would be from the golf course fund.
