Mctoria. <br />were .ippointed to he NICWTD in \Iarch of 1998. <br />Calkins brings to the bo.ird his professional e.xperience in <br />hoiti:ulture and native ecosystems. He is a Research <br />.Associate with the L’niveisity of Minnesota Nurseiy <br />Program. He also ssrv'es on the City of Minnetonka s <br />Park Board and the Blue Water Commission (which <br />studied Lakes Xokomis and Hiawatha and developed <br />rccommcndatioas for improvements). <br />He hopes to strengthen working relationships between the <br />District and member cities. Hennepin Conservation District, and <br />Minnesota Canoe. <br />It took an entire wall to show water-related research and <br />projects dc^ eloped by the students of Minnewashta <br />Elementary’ School. "The kids really knew their stuff and <br />did a great job of presenting it," said Marleane Callaghan, <br />MOW'D Education Coordinator. <br />Children who came to learn also had fiin. One woman, <br />according to Callaghan, had to drag her grandchildren out <br />of the fcstrt al where they especially enjoyed the aquatic <br />animals display. ”.\t home." said Callaghan, "the kids <br />spent hours looking at the little critters they found in <br />ne.irty pond water.” <br />Callaghan said the pailncts hope to pul on the second <br />aimual Clean Water Festival ne.\t year. <br />Lance Fisher is an entrepreneur and electrical engineer. <br />Currently he is a Senior Design Engineer with Cyber- <br />optics Corporation in Golden Valley. Fisher hopes to <br />apply his scientific background to water planning and <br />management. "My tendency will be to review studies and <br />projects in detail," said Fisher. <br />Fisher ’s avocation is the environment. .\n eleven-year <br />shoreline resident of Victoria's .Schuiz Lake, Fisher has a <br />heightened awareness of water issues. "I understand <br />people who arc concerned about water quality, ” he said. <br />“Like me. they base invested a great deal in their homes— <br />not just financially, but emotionally as well.” <br />Rulm B R0iomm0ntlatipns Und^r R^vUw <br />The .Stormwater Task Force has completed its <br />recommendations on Rule B amendments and submitted <br />them to MOW'D. Task Force members included staff and <br />elected officials from cities within the watershed as well <br />as MOW’D managers, staff and staff consultants. .Also <br />participating were developers, state agencies, engineering <br />firms, cns'iromtiental organizations and metropolitan <br />agencies. <br />Cloan Wafof Festival Sets Standard <br />The first-iime-e\ er MOW’D water festival, held Saturday. <br />May 16. 1998, was gis en high marks for organization and <br />effectiveness.
