r
Update Regarding Priority Projects and Timelines continued
July 9, 1998
Page 5
18. Recodification.
A.Staff has met with the recodification consultant to review the entire City Code. The
consultant will now update and reformat the Code to improve its useability. A draft
of the Code will be provided in approximately 6 months.
19. Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Housing Rehab Grant.
A.The cities of Orono and Spring Park were successful in obtaining grants for the
rehabilitation of single family housing. The area identified in Orono is in Navarre
north of County Road 15 and west of Shadywood Road. The two cities have been
awarded a total grant of approximately $135,000. These funds will be made
available to low income property owners in Spring Park and the Navarre area on a
first-come/first-served basis. The County will provide informational materials in the
coming weeks so that the two cities can get the word out to residents in the rehab
areas. A neighborhood-type meeting will also be held to provide information to the
property owners.
20. Future Sewer Projects.
A. The Edgewood Hills sewer project will be rebid in the winter for construction in
1999.
B.A neighborhood meeting was recently held with the residents of the Webber Hills
neighborhood, during which information was provided and comments were received
regarding an alternative to a gravity sewer system. The alternative would be a
pressurized system with all properties having grinder pumps. This alternative would
substantially reduce the per unit cost. The costs would be approximately $14,000 per
unit. There was general support for this-alternative at the neighborhood meeting.
The next step is for the neighbors to start a petition to determine the level of support
and bring this to the City. If the petition effort is successful, the City would move
ahead quickly with a public hearing and the development of plans and specifications
so that the project could be bid over the winter and constructed in 1999.
21. City Hall Roof Repair.
A.The City Council has received a copy of a letter setting out the planned solution to
the roof leak problems on the City Council Chambers building and the
Administration building. Kraus-Anderson, the construction manager on the project,
has arranged for a contractor to make the repairs on the rear portion of the City
Council Chambers building as the first step in the repair process. If the repairs work
well here, the repairs will be completed on the other portions of the buildings.
