FERNDALE ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT <br />RESULTS OF RESIDENTS SURVEY Dale: 11/8/97 <br />Number of residents who responded: 266 <br />Cities Proposal <br />Alternative 1 <br />10%) 36’ Road + BikeAValk Path <br />179 (67%) 24’ Road + BikeAValk Path <br />Alternative 2 (23%) 24’ Road onlv <br />The relative percentages were consistent for all three communities. <br />FEEDBACK FROM SURVEY <br />Based on feedback received from residents during the survey, we will modify Alternative 1 to include: <br />• a 35 mph speed limit, instead of 30 mph___• an 8 foot path and 2 foot median <br />So Alternative 1 is now: <br />• An 24 foot wide road (e.\isting width), divided into 2 lanes <br />• An 8 foot path with a 2 foot median (on east side of road) <br />• An 6" cement curb and storm sewer <br />RESIDENTS’ Q i A <br />• A 35 mph speed limit (a reduction of 5 mph <br />from the current speed limit) <br />• No on-street parking <br />Q: Who pays for the Road? <br />Q: Will the path be plowed in winter? <br />Q: How far south will the path go? <br />A: State Aid Road funding will pay for most of the cost. <br />A: The City of Plymouth has an existing program to plough certain <br />paths/lrails in winter. We plan to ask the Plymouth City Council to add <br />this bike/walking path to that program. <br />A: To the bridge over Highway 12. Currently, the City of Wayzata has <br />no plans to e.xtend the path south of the bridge, but may take it under <br />consideration. <br />NEXT STEPS <br />We will forward this information to the cities engineers and council members for Plymouth, Orono and Wayzata. We will <br />continue to work with the cities on this issue. <br />NEXT PUBLIC MEETING <br />The ne.vt (2nd of 3) public information meeting has not yet been scheduled. The cities are waiting for the Preliminary <br />Engineering Report which should be received by the end of this month. Please watch your ma*' * ox for details. You will <br />receive written notification of the ne,xt meeting. PLEASE ATTEND THE NEXT MEETING IT IS VERY IMPORTANT. <br />Your physical presence conveys the importance of this issue to the cities, more than these survey results.
