2024 Hennepin County All -Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan <br />Volume 2 — Hazard Inventory <br />documents on Minnesota flash floods caused by <br />extreme rainfall. <br />Heat, Extreme <br />Extreme heat is an annual occurrence in Hennepin <br />County and there have been several historic heat <br />waves that have caused both deaths and injuries <br />to our residents. <br />Drought <br />Several historic droughts have occurred across <br />Hennepin County dating back to 1863. These <br />events cause severe impacts on agriculture and <br />the economy as well as increasing wildfire <br />potential. <br />Dust Storm <br />Hennepin County has a history of dust storms <br />going back to the 1930's. These days' dust storms <br />are the cascading events of extreme drought. <br />Cold, Extreme <br />Extreme cold temperatures are an annual <br />occurrence in Hennepin County, with historic <br />outbreaks dating back to the 1800's. These events <br />pose significant threat to people and <br />infrastructure. <br />Winter Storm, <br />Hennepin County has a history of winter weather <br />Blizzard/Extreme Snowfall <br />dating back to the late 1800's. Varying degrees of <br />severity occur in Hennepin County due to the <br />different topography, with the worst conditions <br />occurring in western Hennepin County. <br />Winds, Non -Convective High <br />Although rare, extreme wind -producing non - <br />convective event may affect well over 100,000 <br />square miles with wind damage, and may produce <br />extreme impacts over tens of thousands of square <br />miles <br />Ice Storm <br />Several ice storms have occurred in Hennepin <br />County dating back to the 1930's. These storms <br />have caused great impact to infrastructure and <br />people. The cascading effect of power outages is <br />another threat that has occurred with past ice <br />storms. <br />Hydrologic <br />Flooding, River <br />Several historic flood events have occurred due to <br />the Mississippi, Crow, and Minnesota River in <br />Hennepin County. <br />Flooding, Urban <br />Urban flooding is a consistent problem in <br />Hennepin County, due to torrential rainfall <br />associated with thunderstorm activity. <br />
