PT'WT' <br />questionaire attempts to give background and <br />alternatives that would be helpful to the neighborhood <br />in making an informed decision. The alternative use of <br />the land as a park was a recommendation from the Citizen <br />Committee. (In a conversation with CounciImember <br />Callahan he stated although it was his original <br />suggestion he indicated a desire to reconsider the <br />advisability of doing such.) <br />3. Storage of Public Works equipment - As mentioned at <br />the January 28th meeting and outlined on 2/11, staff has <br />been exploring what to do with the current "Lumber Shed" <br />and the equipment stored therein. Staff feels that the <br />building may be on the verge of "implosion" on its own <br />and has been researching options related to that. These <br />options are as follows: <br />A. Status Quo “ Continue with the utilization of <br />the current structure but continue to close off <br />areas that are unsafe. <br />B. Renting o f Alternative Space - Staff has been <br />working over the last 2 months to determine what <br />space may be available of at least 15,225 square <br />footage and the only rental square footage of <br />significance in the area is in Tonka Bay, near the <br />NS? facility. It is estimated that to rent the <br />sole building there, which would be storage but <br />large enough to allow the operation to work out of <br />that facility on an interim basis, would be about <br />$50,000 a year plus utilities. This facility <br />however, would not equate to the longterm needs and <br />would result in much jockeying of equipment and <br />outdoor storage to make usable together with <br />lacking many of the offices and shops that are felt <br />needed on a longterm basis for the City. <br />C. Tear Down Exist ing Facility, Undertake Outdoor <br />Storage of Current Indoor Storage Materials - Under <br />this option the City would fence in the parking lot <br />next to the lumber shed area, together with <br />utilizing the fenced in area under the Navarre <br />water tower for storage of trucks and other <br />equipment outside until a new facility was <br />completed. Once fenced in the City would then have <br />the current lumber shed removed. <br />D. Interim Repair of Lumber Shed - Staff explored <br />to see if certain structural reinforcements could <br />be done to the existing facility to lessen the <br />potential for implosion. As noted in Attachment F, <br />the feasibility is non-existent even if certain <br />repairs could be done, the code (Building or <br />Zoning) does not allow a dirt floor for a <br />commercial building.
