!>- <br />.5' <br />1 <br />t'V <br />I <br />ORONO COUNCIL MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 11, 1991 <br />HIGHWAY 12 CORRIDOR SELECTION CONTINUED <br />Mabusth assured Council that the Planning Commission h.is <br />already indicated for the record that a "no build" position would <br />be irresponsible and unrealistic. She added, "In fact I believe <br />the Planning Commission will also indicate the type of road they <br />would like to see in addition to a location." <br />Jabbour stated that he had previously encouraged the <br />Planning Commission to be innovative and nvnt limit themselves to <br />corridors that have already been suggested. He said, "I have <br />talked to the residents about this issue. It is my feeling that <br />they are somewhat disappointfjd because Orono has not taken a <br />position on a corridor location. It was my understanding that <br />one of the groups had intended to do a City-wide mailing in an <br />attempt to rally everyone's interest to one position." <br />Callahan stated that the City is reacting in a timely manner <br />to this issue and that responding too quickly may have drawbacks. <br />Goetten stated that this issue was before prior Councils and <br />that, in her opinion, they abdicated their responsibility. She <br />said, **1 vdo not think the City can afford to do that this time. <br />One of the roles of Council is to look into the future and make <br />sound decisions that will benefit the City as a whole. This <br />issue requires a lot of hard work and consideration." Goetten <br />further stated that she approved of the Citizen Committee Charge <br />to Members draft prepared by Staff. <br />It was moved by Jabbour, seconded by Goetten, to adopt the <br />City of Orono Citizen Committee Charge to Members as the City's <br />policy. Motion, Ayes-4, Nays-0.
